Plant Yourself And Grow.
Change is inevitable, and much of the time it’s out of our control. Years ago, I used to react to the changes around me, and let those changes control my reactions. Most of us have been in that place at some point.

One day, I was walking across our farm, pondering all of the things I couldn’t control, and realized that I needed to focus on the things that I could control. As a farmer, I used the phrase, plant yourself where you are, thinking about the way the corn grows in our fields each year. I changed my outlook and put all of my energy into improving areas I had an influence in.

Planting yourself where you are also strengthens and deepens your roots. A tree’s roots dig deeper into the soil each year, making it harder for the wind and other forces to knock it down. Think of yourself as a tree, digging your roots deeper and standing a little taller each year.

The results of planting myself where I was surprised me and were immediately evident. The positive impact was felt by me and my co-workers. I still lose my focus occasionally, but am quick to regain my positive intentions. Sometimes we all need to be reminded to focus on what we can control, especially as the world around us changes.

Now when I am feeling challenged, I tend to put my head down and go to work. I plant myself and grow, and let my actions speak for me. Sometimes a new job is necessary, but even then, the results of your focus and dedication to the previous job, even during turbulent times, will speak for themselves going forward.

Finally, we all need to remember what is truly important to us. Our job is part of who we are, but it is not the only part of your life. It should never have the control to dictate our happiness or satisfaction, rather it should be a component of the whole. Plant yourself and grow, you’ll be pleased with the results.
